Hey there friends! I’m back with one more post for the Ellen Hutson 12 Tags of Christmas, a celebration of handmade gift tag ideas to go along with your holiday crafting and gift giving.
Not long ago, I showed how I used the Essentials by Ellen Holiday Sprigs stamp set to create two cards with different looks. While creating, I intentionally stamped and die cut many more images than I needed because I knew I wanted to make multiple cards and some coordinating tags. Today’s theme song is Deck the Halls, and since “with boughs of holly” is the next line, I decked my tags with the same!
Since I already had my pointsettias, holly and sprig elements stamped and die cut, I was able to skip that process this time and instead started with foiling my tag backgrounds. I used the Essentials by Ellen Tiny Stars hot foil stamp in my hot foiling machine, along with shiny gold foil to create a starry white A2 panel. From this I was able to cut 2 tags with the rectangular die in the Farmhouse Tags die set with very little going to waste.
With the foiling done, the next step was embossing the sentiments from the Avery Elle Merry Circle Tags stamp set on vellum. Whenever embossing on vellum, I like to heat set the powder from the back so that it doesn’t get blown off, and that’s exactly what I did here. Once the circles were cut out, it was time for assembly.
I used two very thin strips of red cardstock for a bottom border on each tag, then reached for my tried-and-true Glad Press n Seal to help temporarily secure my sprig arrangements. I decided to adhere the sprigs directly to the vellum circles so that I could flip them over, apply some little bits of foam adhesive, then mount them on my tags. This gave the tags some dimension, and because the sprigs overlap the vellum circles, I was able to hide the foam adhesive easily. To finish, I cut the reinforcement pieces at the top of the tags from gold cardstock, secured them over the holes, and tied in some sparkly gold ribbon.
