Hi friends! It’s Day 7 of the Ellen Hutson 12 Tags of Christmas, and today’s theme is Santa Claus is Coming to Town – another one of my favorite Christmas songs. I don’t know about you, but holiday shopping looks very different for me these days than in previous years. Hello online, buh-bye standing in line! That said, there’s something comfy and nostalgic about being in the mall and hearing Mariah Carey’s version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town playing, isn’t there?
For today’s theme, I decided to make a tag but feature it as the focal point of a card. To begin, I created my background using the Essentials by Ellen Snowflake dies, cutting several from white glitter cardstock and adhering them to a white panel trimmed to 3.5″ x 4.75″. If you, like me, don’t like to fiddle with adhesive, I highly recommend backing your glitter cardstock with an adhesive sheet. This way, all you need to do is peel and stick once you’ve finished your die cutting, and you don’t have to worry about any pieces coming loose!
After the background was complete, I moved on to making the tag. The Essentials by Ellen Farmhouse Tags are perfectly sized to create stand-alone tags, as well as ones that fit on an A2 card front. I created a striped panel using some blue, pink and red cardstock strips, then ran that panel through my die cutting machine with the rectangle die in the set. Next, I used the Essentials by Ellen Classic Block Alpha to die cut the letters for Ho Ho Ho, twice, so that I could stack them and create some dimension. (That’s 6 H’s and 6 O’s – these are two very hard-working little letter dies, but trust me, you’ll be done before you know it!)
I adhered the Ho Ho Ho to my tag, then threaded a little bit of baker’s twine through the top loops to form a bow. To create even more dimension, I mounted that entire snowflake panel on my card with foam tape.
Ready to play along? You can join in on the Twelve Tags of Christmas by submitting your creations on Instagram with the hashtag #twelvetagsofchristmas and tagging @ellenhutsonllc. (There’s prizes to win too!) I’ll be back soon with another holiday-inspired tag, and in the meantime, the supplies I used for today’s project are listed below. Thank you so much for stopping by!
