5 plant-based green smoothie recipes to try this week - My Fresh Perspective

A plant-based diet is encouraged for everything from beating inflammation + improving digestion to better skin health. Check out these 5 plant-based green smoothie recipes and feel awesome all week. Your whole body will thank you!

These days, there’s a lot of talk about cutting things out – cutting back on carbs, cutting back on processed foods, cutting back on screen time…. all things that are certainly beneficial for our health, of course. But the whole thought of cutting back and reduction isn’t always the most fun, is it? I don’t know about you, but when it comes to food, the second I’m told I should eliminate or reduce a specific food, I’m hungry for it!

Instead, let’s look at this from the lens of something delicious we can ADD daily for improved overall health, shall we? It certainly sounds like more fun to me! It’s simple, and it’s smoothies. They’re a small, almost effortless addition requiring 5 mins (or less!) to whip up, and with the right ingredients, can make a huge difference to the way you feel throughout the day.

Below you’ll find 5 plant-based green smoothie recipes, each with a quick nutrition note about what makes them special. From anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich ingredients to gut-friendly fiber and healthy fats, you’ve got a different blend for every day this week. Enjoy!

Green Start Smoothie

What makes it great: With only a small amount of fruit, this smoothie is a very low-sugar option. It’s subtly sweet, yet not overwhelmingly “green” in taste. Avocado adds healthy fats to further prevent spikes in blood sugar and keeps your energy levels stable. This addition of fat will also make you feel full for longer, and ensures your body is able to make the most of the fat-soluble vitamins A, E and K found in the leafy greens.

ABC Green Smoothie

What makes it great: This smoothie contains a mix of naturally sweet fruit and veggies (apple, banana and carrots) plus mild tasting greens, making it perfect for anyone brand new to green smoothie drinking. In fact, if you were to serve it in a non-clear cup, you probably wouldn’t even detect the greens! Carrots add antioxidants and fiber, and will help you to effortlessly squeeze some extra veggies into your meal. Chia seeds provide additional fiber and healthy fats to keep blood sugar in check, and also help to thicken the smoothie’s texture.

Mango Moringa Green Smoothie Bowl

What makes it great: Part of what makes this recipe gorgeously green in colour is moringa powder which comes from the moringa leaf. It’s high in antioxidants which help to combat free radicals that damage our cells, as well as the toxins in our environment which we’re all exposed to daily. Moringa is also well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, ability to support detoxification, lower blood sugar and protect the cardiovascular system. Sounds pretty worthy of superfood status, don’t ya think?

Peanut Butter & Ginger Green Smoothie

What makes it great: Peanut butter and ginger might sound like an unlikely pair, but don’t knock it till you try it! Ginger has been used for years to help with all sorts of health issues, from nausea and headaches to cramping and bloating. It’s got anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties, and in some studies, patients living with arthritis reported more pain relief from ginger than common pain relief medication.

Powerplant Pineapple Green Smoothie

What makes it great: Pineapple contains a natural enzyme called bromelain which helps aid digestion of proteins, while also adding a tart sweetness to this smoothie. Hemp and chia add extra healthy fats to help our bodies absorb the fat soluble vitamins found in the fruits and veggies, and maca root is added as an optional mix-in with adaptogenic benefits. (In other words, it can help our bodies respond more effectively to stress.) All of these ingredients combined with plant-based protein make this smoothie a great post-workout choice, as well as a nutrient-packed health booster at any time of day.
