Hey there friends!
It’s been a very craft-packed weekend over here, and in addition to making a few cards, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve finally finished the cardigan I mentioned a few posts back! This was my first crochet wearable that isn’t a scarf, earwarmer or beanie, and I’ve already got more yarn on the way to make 2 new patterns. If you’d told me 5 years ago that one of my hobbies in 2020/2021 was going to be crochet, I wouldn’t have believed you, but I’m not mad about it. It’s also made me really appreciate the amount of work that goes into making clothing, and it’s making me a more conscious consumer too. Win win!
Ok, now about those cards! I’ve been playing with florals and feminine colour palettes lately, and for today’s design, I’ve paired those things with white embossing on vellum for a light and airy effect. To get started, I used The Stamp Market Good Ole Gingham background stamp, embossing it in white on heavyweight vellum. While I had the white embossing powder out, I also created some flowers and leaves from the Fresh Cut Stamp Set on Color Crush cardstock in Fresh Pink, Leafy and Cactus.
After cutting out the florals with the coordinating Fresh Cut Floral dies, I did one more little bit of embossing for my sentiment. This came from the Lovely Little Notes stamp set, and I used silver embossing powder. (Normally I’m all about gold, but I’ve been feelin’ the silver lately!) I cut it out with a die from the Lovely Labels Nested Die set, then positioned it over the center of my vellum background.
From here, I played with the arrangement of the florals for a while until I had all of the pieces exactly where I wanted them. Using Post-It tape to temporarily hold the layers in place, I flipped the florals and sentiment over, placed some foam tape on the back to secure everything together, then adhered this foam-backed panel to the vellum piece. Finally, I attached that to my white card base using little transparent glue dos, hidden behind the white embossing on the vellum.
Alrighty, I’ll see you back here on Wednesday for another card, and get ready – Valentine’s Day/Galentine’s Day inspo is coming up!
