November Goal Check-In and 3 for December 2017

November Goal Check-In and 3 Goals for December 2017 - Eat Spin Run Repeat

Oh hey there December, where did you come from?!

Yes, I know I say that pretty much every month. Seriously though, the fact that we’re almost in a new year blows my mind. November was a bit of a blur, but I actually really love December for many reasons. (Cold weather is NOT in that list, but I’ve been compensating with plenty of tea, lattes, roasted veggie bowls and stews like this one.) With fun holiday get-togethers and Christmas aside, I love December because it’s when I dive deep into my goal setting for 2018. With that in mind, before I get to my own goal check-in for November, I wanted to tell you that…

The Gorgeous Guide to Goal Conquering 2018 is coming tomorrow!

Yes, it’s true, and it’s coming TOMORROW! If you’ve been following along for a while, you’ll know I publish a shiny new version of the Gorgeous Guide to Goal Conquering every year. The 2018 edition has been keeping me busy for the past couple of weeks, and I am SO excited to share it with all of you.

For those that aren’t as familiar, this guide is a workbook that walks you through the goal setting process that I personally use for myself, and with women I coach. It looks at all aspects of your life, helps you to determine what it is you really want for your future, and how finally make it happen. Think of it as my early Christmas present to you!

Here’s how to get yours:

If you’re an existing email subscriber: You’re getting it for free. Yes, free! Watch for its arrival in your inbox tomorrow morning, and in the meantime, get your sparkly coloured pens ready. ?

If you’re not signed up for emails by the time I send out this sweet little prezzie at 7am PT tomorrow morning (December 5th), you’ll be able to download it for free until Friday January 5th, 2018. Just come back here for tomorrow’s special announcement post.

After January 5th, 2018, you’ll find the guide available for a small fee in the Eat Spin Run Repeat shop.

Right, now that we’ve got that sorted, let’s chat about how November went.

I talked in my last check-in about how November was going to be a big month for learning, and it most certainly was. Not only did I learn in the areas I set out  to (read on for those) but I also continued to learn how much more productive I am in my work when I let myself unplug and relax completely for a day on the weekend. I’m talking no laptop work, no cooking or photography intended for the blog – just doing what feels good on that given day.

thrive on routine, but sometimes get so into blog/side biz work on the weekends that I hit Monday realizing I never switched off. In November there were several days when I went out of my way to prioritize social plans, and coming out of every single one, I felt amazing. This is one hundo percent influencing my December goals, and what I plan to do in 2018. But more on that in a second! Let’s talk about the 3 things I told you I’d focus on:

Explore the opportunity to do a cooking workshop at a local shared space – A

I did indeed, and this is on the calendar for January! I’ve secured a location (which is beautiful), decided on topics for 3 different workshops, and am currently creating outlines for each. I’m so excited to do these and share my passion for the functional, healing benefits of food – this time in-person with whoever decides to attend here in Vancouver. On that note, if you happen to live in the area and want to be kept in the loop about these sessions, let me know here.

Take at least 5 Skillshare courses on Adobe Lightroom – C

Yikes.. so 5 might have been a bit ambitious. I did do a few short social media courses (more than 5), and one course on Lightroom on a Saturday afternoon, but due to trying to prioritize more non-screen time, I didn’t get too hung up on missing this one. With that said, I still have the other lessons I intended to do bookmarked, so I’ll be getting to those throughout this month. The one I did finish was really helpful when it comes to finding a better organization system for my photos in Lightroom, and I’ve already started putting some of those learnings in action.

Learn 2 new software programs at work – B

I’d say I’m getting there, and because I’m one of those learn-with-experience kinda people, the bits I remember most are the ones I’ve had to learn out of necessity to do real things. (On the other hand, things I’ve watched in videos and read about haven’t stuck to my brain quite as well.) Admittedly, there were a few times that I found myself getting really frustrated with this goal, but I know it’s something I just have to persevere with and will grasp better the more I use both systems. I’m probably being a little too impatient with myself too, because apparently my boss thinks I’m doing a great job… so there’s that!

3 goals for December 2017

With a couple of days behind us, I’ve already started making some strides on my last 3 monthly goals of the year. They are…

Meditate for at least 5 minutes every day.

This is a practice I’ve been off and on with for the last 2 years, and I think it’s something especially fitting for this time of year. Five minutes doesn’t sound like much – especially if you’re the type who meditates for 30+ minutes on the regular, but that’s just not me (yet) so this feels like a manageable goal that I’ll still have to work at. I’m motivated because I know how wonderful meditation has made me feel in the past, and there’s also a ton of tools available to help.

In addition to some amazing personal development resources available to me through work on meditation, I’m also really excited to share lululemon’s Breathe It All In holiday gift to the world. There are 5 mindful practices that you can listen to and do just about anywhere, each guided by one of five global yogis. They’re totally free and I highly recommend these the next time you have a few moments for yourself. The other things I plan to use are apps on my phone (Calm, Insight Timer and Smiling Mind), and of course, the old-fashioned method of no tech at all!

I already know this is going to be something I enjoy because the thought was getting me super excited as I wrote the guide itself. There are currently 2 days allocated in my calendar for this, and can’t wait to curl up with a cozy blanket and a hot beverage to get ‘er done. (Don’t worry though, you don’t need 2 days to do it. I just like to get super immersed in the experience!)

Get back into making my own kimchi and sauerkraut.

If there’s one grocery item I spend WAY too much money on, it’s these 2 fermented products. Normally I’m not price-sensitive when it comes to food because I think it’s one of the best investments we can make in ourselves, but both of these foods are so cheap to make (and easy) – it’s just a matter of doing it.

While this hasn’t always been the case, I’m a BIG kimchi and sauerkraut fan, not only for their health benefits (probiotics = happy tummy), but because they taste SO good. A while ago I was in the habit of making kimchi regularly, but laziness and busy-ness brought that to a halt. My favourite brands are Karthein’s Organic + Unpasteurized Sauerkraut, Farmhouse Culture and Wildbrine, all of which are in my shopping cart on a weekly basis.

Wildbrine Korean Kimchi

Sadly, for some unknown reason, my usual Whole Foods hasn’t had Wildbrine’s Thai kimchi forEVER. Rather than continuing to experience withdrawal symptoms (sad thoughts every time I arrive, hopeful, at the fermented foods section, only to be disappointed… again), I’ve decided to attempt my own Thai version and a few others. They’ll be adaptations of my original DIY kimchi recipe, and of course, I’ll be sure to post the must-make successes here on the blog so you can try them too.

Now it’s over to you: I’d love to hear what you’re working on in this final month of 2017, and what your November wins were. Tell me all about it in the comments below!

  1. Ohhh! What a great list of goals for December! I have been really loving the Insight Timer app for meditating – nothing makes my morning’s happier (except maybe a delicious cup of coffee…).

Also, throwback to that one batch of sauerkraut you made in Waterloo….E for effort right?! 🙂

Wishing you the BEST December, lovely. Can’t wait to use this beautiful goal guide.
