OMG! A Clean and Simple Celebration Card

OMG: A Clean and Simple Celebration Card featuring Essentials by Ellen

Sometimes really great things happen to your friends, like promotions, passing tests, or finally landing their dream job. And when those times happen, you need cards to let them know how freaking proud of them you are, right? That was exactly the inspo behind the design I’ve got for you today.

You guys know I love a good white background, and for this card I decided to make one using a whole bunch of stacked Os, Ms and Gs from the Essentials by Ellen Classic Block Alpha die set. If you’re thinking “OMG, that’s a lot of die cutting”, you’d be correct! But lucky for me, a certain someone gifted herself an Anna Griffin Empress electric die cutting machine for Christmas, and no repetitive die cutting task is too great for the Empress – she’s a beauty!

After die cutting all of my little letters, I used a ruler and grid paper to adhere them diagonally on a plain white cardstock panel trimmed to 3.5 x 4.75″. Liquid glue made this a super quick task, though backing your white cardstock with an adhesive sheet before doing the die cutting would have been an alternate way to save time.

I trimmed the excess off the edges of my white panel, then moved onto the sentiment. I absolutely love the Essentials by Ellen All About You stamp set, and reach for them often because there are so many great everyday sentiments. The coordinating dies cut all the sentiments out in one go, and the All About You 2-layer die coordinates and adds a bit of a fun retro look.

I used Concord and 9th cardstock in Oceanside for the long sentiment strip, embossing a little ‘so obnoxiously proud of’ in detail white embossing powder, and for a bit of extra color, I layered another strip in Peacock underneath. I then used Hero Arts Papaya cardstock for the ‘you’, and stacked the letters on top of the shadow layer. I die cut the white portion 3 times and stacked those too, which made the ‘you’ more sturdy – a bit more like chipboard than cardstock.

I popped the entire panel forward on a white A2 card base with foam tape, then added a few clear sparkling sequins to finish it off. Though the die cutting may sound tedious, it really didn’t take that long and I can definitely see myself repurposing this background design with other short words in the future. It’s a great way to get more out of your alpha dies!
