Small Butterflies – featuring Pinkfresh Studio

Mini Gold Foil Butterfly Cards - featuring Pinkfresh Studio

Hey there friends!

Today I’ve got two cards to share that I made with the new Pinkfresh Studio Small Butterflies stamp, hot foil plate and die combo. I’ve been all about the butterflies lately (see exhibit 1 and 2!) and unlike the larger butterflies I’ve used in the past, these cuties are a little smaller which means you can fit more of them on a single card.

For the first one, I started out by foiling the entire plate’s worth of small butterflies on white cardstock, then again on vellum. I love the light, delicate look that vellum creates, and think it works perfectly here to add some dimension and interest to the wings.

After die cutting the images and using tiny glue dots to stick the vellum layers over cardstock, I moved on to creating an ink blended background. For this, I reached for my blending brushes and Pinkfresh inks in Sparkling Rose, Candy Violet and Aquamarine. Once all the colors were blended together, I set that panel aside to dry while I cut a thick frame to be positioned over it. (You could absolutely turn it into a shaker window at this stage if you wanted to!)

I backed the thick white frame with foam tape, then placed it over my ink blended panel to secure the two together. I’d normally wait until the end to mount this on my card base, but did it here instead so that I wouldn’t crush my butterflies. I played with the arrangement a little before settling on cascading them down the left side, then finished with a ‘just a note’ sentiment, foiled from the Perfect Sentiments hot foil plate and die.

Moving on to the second card, I switched from the Small Butterflies hot foil plate to the Small Butterflies stamp set, this time embossing on colored cardstock and vellum.

For the background, I used the Essentials Diagonal Stripes with Window die and cut it three times from white cardstock. (Hot tip: If you back the cardstock with adhesive sheets first, it makes it super fast to stick them together!) After stacking all 3 layers together, I adhered them to my card base to create a white-on-white textured background.

Much like the first card, I fussed around with the assembled butterflies for a while before I had the arrangement the way I wanted it. Once I was totally sure, I secured the butterflies to the card with foam tape, then gently bent the leaves back a bit for extra dimension.

To finish off, I used the ‘just a note’ sentiment from the Perfect Sentiments set, this time in silver foil. Did I mean to use the same words on cards that I’d be sharing in the same blog post? Nope – I actually didn’t realize it until I sat down to write this!
