Pinkfresh Studio September 2022 Release - Floral Grid Cover Plate Birthday Card

Hey there friends!

I can’t believe how fast time is flying, but it’s time for another Pinkfresh Studio release and blog hop. I’m so glad you’re here, and if this is your first time visiting my blog, it’s great to have you! I’m Angela and I’ve got a deep love for papercrafting, color, and of course, Pinkfresh Studio. Today I’ve got a project to share that features a couple of items from the latest release. Pinkfresh is known for their gorgeous florals, and this month is no exception – there’s lots of ’em!

As many of you know, I love a good white background. Subtle elements of texture and paper piercing add visual interest without taking away from the focal point of the card, and this is exactly what’s happening with the new Floral Grid Cover Plate. This plate is perfectly sized for an A2 card, but doesn’t cut an edge so you could run it through a larger piece of cardstock to create a continuous pattern if you want to. You can also choose to cut the floral bits out entirely, or leave them in (more of a paper piercing effect) as I’ve done in my card today. In order to do this, I simply ran the plate and my cardstock through my die cutting machine without a metal shim. In other cards that I made where I did want to punch the floral bits out, I used my metal shim and they die cut beautifully. It’s good to have options, isn’t it!?

For the focal point, I really wanted to use the leaves from the new Songbirds on Branches hot foil plate, and this set also comes with a coordinating die and layering stencils. After foiling the images in shiny gold Glimmer foil, I grabbed my ink blending brushes and started lightly filling in color with Pinkfresh inks in Mermaid Cove, Mint and Candy Violet. (PS… did you know that Pinkfresh now stocks the Glimmer Hot Foil System and foil rolls? Now you can get everything in one place!)

Once my leaves were cut out, I used one of the frames from the Mini Slimline Essentials set to cut the dotted circle you see behind the sentiment, as well as a regular circle die to cut a slightly larger one out of vellum which I layered behind. I fiddled around with my leafy arrangement behind the circles for a while, and once I had everything where I wanted it, secured it all together and onto my cover panel with foam tape. Since the leaves are quite delicate, I also popped little bits of foam tape behind them so that they wouldn’t get bent in the mail. (It can be brutal, can’t it?!)

To finish, I added a stacked happy birthday sentiment that I made with the Fancy Script Words hot foil plates (released last month), and added a few gold metallic pearls to finish.

  1. Beautiful card. I love how you showed that you can just use a small part of the stamp and create something fantastic. Thanks

  2. Hi, Angela –
Thanks for using the Floral Grid cover plate. Love that. I appreciate so much all the little details like that circle you added or the vellum one behind it… or the colors you chose for your leaves or the embellishments you decided to use. The whole card is fabulous. TFS –

  3. Love the idea to use just portions of the songbird set for a totally different look and the subtle floral background is a nice touch. TFS

  4. This card is simply beautiful. I love all the soft colors and I love that you did the gold foiling on a colored cardstock

  5. I love this CAS card! I appreciate that you showcased using just the leaf sections from the Songbirds on Branches set. It’s a great reminder to look at all the elements separately as well!

  6. Gorgeous card–I love the pink and teal flowers on that lovely background. Thanks for the inspiration.
