Today I’m joining Pinkfresh Studio for the June Challenge, which is all about die cuts!
Fun fact: when I started making cards 2 years ago and was buying my first supplies, I never thought I’d be into die cutting. Fast forward to now, and some of my favorite cards are made with only cardstock and dies! I love the dimension that layers of die cuts creates, and today’s card is an example of exactly that.
To get started, I gathered the dies I planned to use:
- Pinkfresh Studio Slim Stripes die set
- Pinkfresh Studio Joyful Peonies hot foil plate and die
- Pinkfresh Studio Heather’s Lower Case alpha die set
As for the color scheme, I focused on the coral and blue in the inspiration image. I picked a few different colors of cardstock in each, then cut several 1/2″ stripes using the Slim Stripes die set. Next, I switched on my hot foiling machine, prepared the Joyful Peonies plate with some silver foil and a piece of white cardstock, waited for it to heat up, then foiled the floral image by running the stack through my die cutting machine.
After die cutting the peonies, I used the Heather’s Lower Case alpha die set to cut the letters for the word ‘thanks’ from navy cardstock. This ended up being a pretty bold contrast and I wasn’t sure if I loved it at first, but it’s grown on me over time!
With all of my die cuts ready, I began adhering my 1/2″ stripes across a trimmed white card panel. I trimmed off the excess, then used some foam tape to adhere the silver foiled peony on top. I used taperunner to stick the ‘thanks’ letters in a cascading sort of way down the floral die cut, and finally, backed the entire panel with foam tape and mounted it on my card base.
If you’d like to participate in the Pinkfresh Studio June Challenge, all the details you’ll need to enter can be found here. Winners will receive a $50 gift card, and you’ve got until June 29th to share. I can’t wait to see what you create!
