Pinkfresh Studio Charming Floral Border Hot Foil Gatefold Card

Hi friends! Today I’m joining Pinkfresh Studio in celebrating their latest release, and I’m one stop along a blog hop that’s bursting with inspiration. If this is your first time here, welcome! My name is Angela I’m so glad you stopped by.

Pinkfresh Studio November 3 Release Blog Hop

When I first saw all of the products in this release, I instantly fell in love with the Charming Floral Border hot foil plate. This plate coordinates with the Charming Floral Border layering stencils and die, and if you’re not into foiling, no worries – there’s a stamp set too! It’s got some great everyday sentiments in it that fit easily onto A2, slimline and mini-slimline cards, and I’m pretty sure you’ll see me using this set a lot in the future.

In order to put the Charming Floral Border set to the test, I decided to make a gatefold card. If you’re not familiar, this is exactly like the name suggests – a card that opens in the middle, just like two gate doors. It has the same measurements as a standard A2 card (4.25″ wide x 5.5″ tall), and to begin, I started by cutting my card base from a piece of cardstock cut to 8.5 wide x 5.5″ tall. I scored at 2 1/8″ from each end, then folded those flaps inward – voila, card base complete!

Next I moved onto the foiling. I foiled the Charming Floral Border twice (one for each side of my card) in shiny silver foil. I did this on  the edge of 2 separate A2 panels, leaving the rest of the panels white – and you’ll see why in a second. I colored them in with the Charming Floral layering stencils, blending brushes, and Pinkfresh inks in Storm and Regal Kiss, and then prepared to doing some partial die cutting.

I wanted to ensure that the floral border pieces could be grabbed as handles to open the card, so I needed to create some way to secure them to the rest of my card. To do this, I used my scoring board and bone folder to score a straight line down the left side length of the foiled images. I folded along this line, then temporarily taped the Charming Floral die in place, over my foiled images. Had I run the entire thing through my die cutting machine at this point, I’d get my floral border piece, as well as a plain white die cut. Instead, I used partial die cutting to leave part of that scored and folded part in tact. This gave me flaps that I could use to secure the foiled florals.

While my die cutting machine was out, I used the Pinkfresh Studio Chevron hot foil plate and my embossing pads to create a textured white background panel. You can’t see much of this on the final design because the florals cover the majority, but it does add just a bit of subtle texture underneath. I trimmed this panel to be slightly smaller than an A2 card front, then cut it straight down the middle so that I had one panel for each side of the gatefold. I also cut a simple circle using the Folk Edge Circle die set, made 2 small side-by-side holes in the center, and cut that straight down the middle as well.

With all my components ready, it was time for assembly. For each floral die cut, I used liquid adhesive to secure the flaps to the back of the textured chevron panels. I backed those pieces with foam tape, then mounted them on my gatefold card base. For the semicircle pieces, I ran a piece of silver ribbon through each of the holes, secured the ends behind with strong double-sided adhesive, and then adhered them directly next to each other so that they covered the flap area on the foiled floral pieces beneath. After tying the ribbon into a bow, I embossed the ‘sending so much love’ sentiment from the Charming Floral Border stamp set on navy cardstock, cut it out with a die from the Fancy Label Frames die set, and secured just the left half to the left side of my card so that it could still open freely once the bow was untied. Done and done!

Hard to pick just one.
