Pinkfresh Studio August Challenge: Stripes!

Pinkfresh Studio August Challenge - Striped Monstera Card

Fact 1: I love a good striped card. Fact 2: August is my birth month.

Given those two facts, you can imagine my excitement when I found out that the theme for Pinkfresh Studio’s August challenge is stripes!  I’m choosing to believe that it’s their birthday present to me, but really, I’ll take any opportunity to create a striped card. For this month’s challenge, I decided to combine an assortment of colors with another one of my favorite things, monstera leaves.

To begin, I trimmed some white cardstock to 3.5×4.75″ and used a simple circle die to cut 3 windows. Next, I dove deep into my strip stash (most of which were made using the Pinkfresh Studio Slim Stripes die set – a true essential!) and picked out an assortment of fuschia, light orange, green, and a bunch of blues. I adhered these on an angle to a piece of plain typing paper the same size as my trimmed card base, and this became the background for the three little windows.

Next, I used the Garden Wreath die set to create some white foliage to frame the circles. I love this set because it’s got all sorts of fun little leaves and flowers, and the size works really well on both regular A2-size and mini slimline cards. With my pieces all cut out, I began adhering them around the windows, tucking the ends behind so that it would look like most of the pieces were growing from the inside.

For the sentiment, I used a ‘sending hugs’ from the Perfect Sentiments hot foil plate and die set, which I foiled in silver. I can’t emphasize enough how – well, perfect – the Perfect Sentiments are! With all 11 of them being on a single plate and the die as one piece, it’s a massive timesaver and I’m always so grateful to have a supply of pre-made sentiments every time I need one for a card.

I backed the white panel with foam tape, then closed up the back with the striped piece so that there would be some dimension and shadows around the windows. After adhering my sentiment, I mounted the panel to my card base and finished with a few little pink crystals in the middle of the flowers.
