Even before completing my Culinary Nutrition Expert certification in 2017, I’ve always enjoyed being a bit of a mixologist in the kitchen, creating new recipes with all sorts of health-benefitting superpowers.

Lately one of my favourite weekend rituals has been concocting new nut butters, using different types of nuts and seeds, plus fun ingredients to amp up the nutrition profile and help with whatever aspects of my health I feel need a boost. I’ve been investing a pretty significant amount of time into learning more about skin health (chalk it up to the thought of turning 30 in 2018!), so just like so many others interested in healing with food, collagen has been in a lot of my recent recipe creations.

This Skin Boosting Collagen Walnut Butter isn’t just great for skin, but also hair, nails, digestion, and any other aspect of our wellness that is improved by essential healthy fats. Walnuts are one of the richest sources of plant-based omega-3 fatty acids, as well as vitamin E – one of the ingredients you’ll often see listed on the back of anti-aging skincare creams. I’ve added hemp seeds for omega-6 fats and fibre, and of course, collagen for extra protein and cell repair. I’m a believer in what we eat being more effective than anything we apply externally, and once you get a taste of this nut butter, I think you’ll be on board too!

  • Add the hemp seeds and continue processing again until as smooth as possible.
  • Finally, add the remaining ingredients and process once more.

    1. Hi Mollie! I don’t normally work out the nutrition stats per serving but for this, you can expect the stats to be similar to a store-bought walnut butter, with slightly higher protein content due to the collagen. So 1 tbsp would be about 100 calories.

  1. Its great ideas to use collagen in a nut butter
I hava the same collagen power, so I’m thinking about the taste
Dose the collagen powder have after taste in this butter? or does it effect the taste in general
I tried the collagen powder with milk, coffee and other drinks but I cant tolerate the taste of the powder
    Thanks

    1. Hi there! Nope, the collagen is completely flavourless so you won’t taste it in the nut butter at all. It has a slight effect on the overall nut butter’s consistency (thickening it a bit) but you shouldn’t be able to taste it assuming you’re using flavourless collagen peptides.
