Monstera Thinking of You Card

Monstera Love on Cards Part 1, featuring Pinkfresh Studio Garden Wreath die set

It’s no mystery that I’m a huge plant lover, and monsteras are hands-down my favorites. To kick off the week, I’ve got a clean and simple monstera thinking of you card, featuring a few more of my fave things – white on white, and stripes!

I began by die cutting a whooooole bunch of monstera leaves from the Pinkfresh Studio Garden Wreath die set, using heavyweight white cardstock. I cut double the number I needed because I knew I wanted to create some extra dimension and texture by stacking them on top of each other.

Once my leaves were ready, I used the Slim Stripes die set to cut some 1/4″ strips in assorted pink, orange and green cardstock. I really love how these colors looked together, and the combo was inspired by a bouquet of flowers I saw at the grocery store the morning I made this card. Inspo is everywhere, my friends!

I trimmed a white card panel down to 3.5″ wide by 4.75″ tall, then began adhering my monstera leaves, trimming the excess off the edges. Rather than laying the stripes directly on top one at a time, I put them together separately, sticking them to a piece of white printer paper cut to the same size as my monstera panel. This is something I do quite often – mainly because it helps me ensure all the stripes are smoothly laid out, and it allows for smooth, tidy trimming at the edges. I sliced away the printer paper above and below the stripes, then backed the piece with foam tape and carefully placed it over the white monstera panel.

This was intended to be a really simple card, but I knew it still needed some shine. I used one of the sentiments created in a previous crafting session with matte gold foil, the Celebrating You hot foil plate and coordinating die. (I LOVE having a bunch of ready-made sentiments on hand, so if you haven’t checked out the Celebrating You or Perfect Sentiments sets, definitely take a peek! The plate, die and stamp set each come as single pieces so you can stamp or foil and die cut a whole bunch in a single go – perfect for crafters like me who always seem to run out of time.)

I popped the ‘thinking of you’ sentiment on the bottom corner of the monstera panel with skinny foam strips so that it would sit at the same level as the stripes, then backed that entire piece with more foam tape and mounted in to the card base. Done and done!

If you adore monstera leaves as much as I do, stay tuned for Wednesday’s post because I’ve got more coming up. Until then, have a wonderful day!
