It seems butterflies are having a moment in the card making world, and I’m here for it! Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE a good floral, but butterflies are so pretty and I think this is the very first time I’ve ever used them in my cards. Why wait so long? I have no idea!
Last month Pinkfresh Studio released a gorgeous new coordinated set consisting of the Butterflies layering stencil, Butterflies stamp set, and coordinating die. I’ve been very into coral and teal color palettes lately, so I made a little card duo featuring different shades of these colors, the gorgeous new butterflies, and some gold touches for a bit of shine.
My craft session started by stenciling two butterflies, one using Mermaid Cove and Tidal Pond, and the other with Coral Reef and Passion Fruit inks. Once the ink was dry, I used the Butterflies stamp and gold embossing powder to heat emboss the outline on each, intentionally offsetting the stamp slightly for a bit of an artsy look.
Next up came the die cutting. I used the coordinating Butterflies die to cut out the butterflies, as well as a whole bunch of leaves using the Curvy Leaves die set. These leaves became the background for one of the cards, and also added some texture while allowing the butterfly to remain the focus.
For the sentiment on card with the teal butterfly, I used some gold foil and ‘you’re the sweetest’ from the Celebrating You hot foil plate in my hot foiling system, then ran it through my die cutting machine with the coordinating die. (I LOVE this set because you get all the sentiments on a single plate, and the same is true for the die and stamp set. If you like to bulk-create sentiments easily, it’s a must have!) I adhered the sentiment and butterfly to my leafy card base with foam tape, then covered the back of the panel in more foam tape before mounting it on a white A2 card base.
For the coral-colored butterfly card, I reached for Heather’s Lower Case Alphabet die set and cut the letters for ‘hello’ out in a few coordinating shades of cardstock. Again I adhered the butterfly and sentiment to a plain white card base with foam tape, centered it on another white card base, and finished with a few coral-colored enamel dots.
I had so many other ideas for these Pinkfresh Studio butterflies, but as usual, not enough time to bring them all to life. I’m excited to keep playing with them over the coming weeks, and can’t wait to see what all of you are creating too. I’d love to hear, are you into the butterfly trend?
